Thrive Global writer Phil Laboon recently asked to interview me about how to create a fantastic [I would have said FABulous!] work culture. Since I had recently spent considerable time interviewing 200 companies about skills needed for The New Collar Workforce book, visits to factories were fresh in my mind.
The best work cultures that I witnessed offered staff unique opportunities to become part of a true problem-solving team. Fully 95% of the employers had said that problem-solving was the primary skill needed for today’s worker. Driven by disruptive technology’s exponential advances, today’s employee must be able to adapt and learn new hardware and software at an increasingly rapid pace.
But as employers it is imperative to give people the opportunity to solve problems on the job, take initiative and explore options for continuous improvement.
